Think of the word summer. What do you see in your mind? Maybe you see a sunny beach, blue water, or an ice cream. Now think of the word love. You may see a red heart, your family, a good friend, or even a pet. Some words can quickly paint a picture in our minds.

But now think of the word and. What do you see?  Maybe nothing.

This is interesting because we use and every day. We know what it does, and we understand it when we hear it. However, it is very difficult to make a picture of it in our minds. Why does this happen?

Some words are easy to picture because they are connected to things we see, hear, touch, taste, or feel. Think about the word apple. You may see a red or green apple. You may also remember its taste. The word rain may make you think of grey clouds, wet streets, or the sound of water on a window.

Our experiences are important too. Last summer, Mia visited the seaside with her family. She walked on the beach every morning and watched the blue sea. Now, when she hears the word summer, she may remember those days. Another person may think about a completely different summer.

The same thing can happen with the word home. One person may see a small flat. Another may see a large house with a garden. Someone may think of their family. We all know the word home, but we do not always have the same picture in our minds.

Other words are different. Try to make a picture of the, because, of, or and. It is much harder. These words do not usually name a person, place, object, or feeling. Instead, they help us put words and ideas together.

For example, think about tea and cake. You can probably see a cup of tea. You can also imagine a piece of cake. But what does and look like? Does it have a colour? Is it big or small? Of course not. And connects the tea and the cake, but it does not give us an object to picture.

This does not mean that and has no meaning. It has an important job in English. We understand its job even when we cannot see anything in our imagination. The same is true for many other small words.

We often use these words without thinking about them. We are more interested in the people, places, things, and actions in a sentence. However, the small words help our sentences work.

Language is interesting because words do not all work in the same way. Some words can bring colours, sounds, people, and memories into our minds. Other words connect those ideas together.

So, think of summer again. Perhaps you see the sun or the sea. Now think of and. Did your mind become quiet? That is normal. Some words give us a picture, while other words help us connect the pictures we already have.

Dolphins are also very playful. They enjoy jumping through waves, chasing each other, and playing with seaweed. Sometimes they even swim near boats because they are curious about people. Their playful nature makes them one of the most loved animals in the sea.

People are still learning new things about dolphins. Scientists have discovered that dolphins can solve simple problems and understand instructions. They continue to find out more about these amazing animals every year. Some dolphins even use sea sponges to protect their noses while looking for food on the sea floor. This shows that they can use simple tools.

It is important to protect dolphins and their homes. Dirty oceans, plastic waste, and fishing nets can be dangerous for them. If we keep the oceans clean, dolphins will have a safer place to live. They will continue to swim freely, and future generations will be able to enjoy watching these amazing animals.

Dolphins remind us that animals can be both kind and clever. We should always respect nature and protect the oceans. If we do our part, it will make a world of difference for dolphins and many other sea animals. Their curiosity teaches us that asking questions and exploring the world will help us learn new things every day.
